CHANTICLEER RETURNS TO MONDAVI CENTER MARCH 26
EarthSongs Concert Celebrates the Beauty and Power of Nature

San Francisco, February 13, 2006—Chanticleer, the internationally-acclaimed, 12-man vocal ensemble, will perform EarthSongs, a program featuring music drawn from poetry inspired by nature, at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, March 26 at 3:00 pm.

With EarthSongs, Chanticleer pairs poets’ words with music to celebrate nature. Pieces encompass delicate madrigals, contemporary settings and evocations of native cultures by composers including Palestrina, Monteverdi, Saint-Saëns, and Mahler, along with folk songs, spirituals and popular songs. (Click here for complete program with notes.) Chanticleer Music Director Joseph Jennings assembled the program, which also tours across the country and to Europe this season. Tickets ($25 - $42) are available through the Mondavi Center Box Office (866-754-2787) or online at www.chanticleer.org.

The EarthSongs program has met with critical praise this season. Cleveland Plain-Dealer music critic Donald Rosenberg wrote:

“The first concert in the newly dubbed Viva! & Gala Around Town series was a mesmerizing performance Saturday at Trinity Cathedral in downtown Cleveland by Chanticleer, the San Francisco-based male vocal ensemble that actually resides in divine artistic regions. Few groups of vocal or instrumental persuasion could equal the cohesive precision, stylistic acuity and sheer tonal beauty that these dozen gents achieve as a matter of musical course…. British, Irish and Ecuadorian folk songs, rumba, jazz, spirituals - well, Chanticleer triumphed in everything, from the highest countertenor lines to the lowest bass rumbles.”

This is Chanticleer’s second appearance at the Mondavi Center in 2005-06, following the popular Christmas concert last December.
