JOSEPH H. JENNINGS TO RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS CHORAL AWARD

Music Director of Chanticleer receives highest honor from Chorus America

June 7, 2007 - San Francisco - Today, Chorus America announced that Joseph H. Jennings is the 2007 recipient of the Michael Korn Founders Award for Development of the Professional Choral Art. Past recipients include Robert Shaw, Dale Warland, Alice Parker and Louis Botto, founder of Chanticleer. Chorus America established this Honorary Citation in 1978 to honor an individual with a lifetime of significant contributions to the professional choral art. Nominations are solicited from the membership of Chorus America and the annual recipient is chosen by the Board of Directors. Chorus America has more than 1600 members and provides services to choral professionals throughout North America.

Mr. Jennings joined Chanticleer as a countertenor in 1983, and shortly thereafter assumed his current title of Music Director. Under his direction, Chanticleer has released 25 critically acclaimed recordings (works ranging from Gregorian chant to Renaissance masterworks to jazz), including the GRAMMY® Award-winners Colors of Love and Lamentations and Praises, and has performed at many of the world's most prestigious festivals and concert halls. A prolific composer and arranger, Mr. Jennings has provided the group with some of its most popular repertoire, most notably spirituals, gospel music, and jazz standards.  Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Mr. Jennings earned his Master's degree in Conducting from Colorado State University at Fort Collins, and his Bachelor's degrees in Music Education and Piano from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Hailed by the New Yorker magazine as "America's favorite choral ensemble" and praised by the Los Angeles Times for its "luxurious perfection," the GRAMMY® Award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer in 2006-07 performs over 80 concerts in 22 states across the U.S. Chanticleer's activities as a not-for-profit corporation are supported by its administrative staff and Board of Trustees
